"From Heart to Hand: African American Quilts from the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts"

Being inspired by these amazing abstract quilts was not difficult, however, the tricky part was not falling prey to folky cliches. These quilts are stunningly contemporary for being sewn 50+ years ago, and I wanted to highlight that along with the quirky qualities. I decided to work a bit of patchwork into the title and kept the body type simple and clean. I referenced the off-kilter angles of the quilts with the yellow cut out and some vinyl "stitches."
